South Yorkshire Road League 5 Milers - Penistone
Penistone marked the last of the 2018 South Yorkshire Road League 5 milers. The series was reduced to three races, due to the cancellation of Lodge Moor thanks to heavy fog, and has flown by this year. I'm still enthusiastic as ever about these events and love what they represent.
Each course has had a bit of everything and Penistone was no different. There's the furious start within a small housing estate, the transition from residential to agricultural land, a long and steady climb with an almost mirrored descent...and of course there's a short punchy hill at the end.
All clubs are fantastic, with members who have finished staying on to cheer those still coming in. Which ever club you run for I'm sure this show of support is really appreciated by those battling hard lower down the pack.
The season is rounded off with a pint and a chance to applaud those who won and more importantly those who make these events tick. Without the organizers, marshals, time keepers and all the clubs representatives these things would never happen.
It's a shame these are now over for another year but it's made me want to keep taking part in club events throughout the year.
